The cornerstone of the D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation is the need to mentor youth and those who need direction and motivation to succeed. The reality of fatherless homes provides the opportunity for the organization to fill in the gap of empowering today’s youth in the areas of social, educational, economic, political and psychological health. D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation is a community development non-profit that not only talks the talk
but walks the walk.
D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation, is a Dayton, OH, 501(c)3 non-profit founded by Mike Manuel, Sr. Mike brings over 20 years of corporate experience, most recently as a Senior Engineer with Honda in California. He was blessed with a vision for economic empowerment while on a mission trip to South Africa. In 1995, he created three construction training programs for local students with overwhelming community participation and support. The three programs are: B.E.E. (Building Economic Empowerment) for adult learners, Junior Engineer I Program for ages 10 to 13 and the Junior Engineer Program II for ages 14 to 18.
Mike’s engineering background has equipped him with the necessary technical and managerial skillset to lead by example. He is passionate about making changes in the lives of the people and community in which he serves. With his unique blend of vision, knowledge, and leadership, his programs have touched the lives of many families and individuals through economic empowerment, training, and mentoring.
D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation currently offers the B.E.E. (Building Economic Empowerment) Program for adults and Junior Engineer programs for youth. These training and mentoring programs were written by Mike Manuel, based on Universal Laws that teach students how to apply construction principles to life situations, such as forming healthy relationships and
building successful businesses.
D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation has served people from all populations. In doing so, we participated in the Governor‘s Initiative to close the Achievement Gap. Ohio State Senator C.J. Prentiss toured our classroom at Dayton Public Schools and stated that “you have the most innovative mentoring program in the State of Ohio.” These achievements earned Mike the 2017 Mentor of the Year Award from the Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County.
We all know actions speak louder than words. Many years ago, our founder Mike Manuel decided it was time to quit talking about what could be done to help economically disadvantaged and at-risk youth better themselves. It was time to take the initiative and “DO IT”!
Today, D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation mentors and trains students as young as 10 years old from diverse populations in Dayton, OH, including women. Our graduates have worked on a variety of projects — from building new Insulation Concrete Form (ICF) homes to participating in residential rehabilitation projects such as the historical $1.00 home in Wright Dunbar Village. Additionally, ten homes were renovated in Highville Hills area while simultaneously implementing a training program. B.E.E. Program graduates have gone on to become licensed electricians, general contractors, real estate investors, project managers, and entrepreneurs. D.O.I.T. Community Development Corporation will continue to collaborate with others in the community to further the support causes to benefit youth and adults.
